SAFETY & SUPPORT

Therapy That Meets Children Where They Are

Not all children are best supported within a clinic setting.

For some children and families, therapy is more effective when it happens in familiar, meaningful environments, such as schools, early learning settings, homes, or community spaces.

Outreach and community-based sessions allow therapeutic work to take place where children already feel safer, more settled, or better supported.

How Outreach Sessions Work

Outreach sessions involve me meeting a child or young person in a location that best supports their emotional safety and engagement.

This may include:

  • schools or early learning settings

  • homes or kinship placements

  • community or agency spaces

  • other agreed environments

Outreach work is often collaborative and may involve parents, carers, educators, or caseworkers, depending on the child’s needs and context.

The therapeutic approach remains relational, play-based, and paced to the child, the location simply adapts to support the work.

Who Outreach Sessions May Support

Outreach and community-based sessions may be helpful for:

  • children and young people in out-of-home care

  • children who find clinic settings overwhelming

  • families navigating complex or transitional circumstances

  • schools and agencies supporting vulnerable children

  • situations where consistency and accessibility are important

Each outreach arrangement is considered thoughtfully to ensure it is clinically appropriate and, in the child’s, best interests

Collaboration & Referrals

Outreach work often involves collaboration with:

  • parents and carers

  • schools and educators

  • Child Safety and OOHC services

  • allied health and community agencies

Referrals may come from families directly or through agencies and professionals. Service agreements, reports, and communication can be provided where appropriate.

Outreach sessions may be accessed privately or through eligible NDIS plans.

Travel, Time & Planning

Because outreach sessions involve travel time and additional logistical considerations, fees are structured to reflect both therapeutic time and travel.

Outreach sessions are charged at the standard session rate, calculated in time-based increments, with an additional fuel component applied where relevant.

Details are discussed transparently prior to commencement, so expectations are clear for families, schools, and agencies.

LOOKING AHEAD

Big Bear’s Treehouse is continuing to explore ways to improve access to therapeutic support, including future outreach expansion through a purpose-built mobile therapy caravan.

Further information about these services will be shared when available.
