INTRODUCING IZZY
Meet Our Therapy Dog in Training
Izzy is my much-loved Giant Schnauzer and a therapy dog in training.
Having grown up alongside Bear, Izzy has been part of a home where connection, trust and gentle companionship have always mattered. In many ways, she carries Bear's legacy forward — not as his replacement, but through the same values of calm, safety and connection.
As Izzy continues her training, we are exploring how she may eventually become part of the therapeutic work at Big Bear's Treehouse.
Animal-assisted play therapy involves much more than simply bringing a dog into a counselling session. It requires careful preparation, appropriate training, attention to safety and respect for the needs of both the child and the animal.
Any future involvement will be thoughtfully planned, with informed client consent and respect for Izzy's wellbeing, comfort and freedom to choose whether she participates.
For now, Izzy is learning, growing and enjoying being a dog — and that's exactly as it should be.
